Frequently Asked Questions

Phinda Game Reserve

What is the Phinda entrance fee used for?

The Conservancy fee of R150 per person per stay is added to your invoice. This fee is utilized for the maintenance and conservation of the reserve itself.

Where does the name Phinda come from?

Phinda Game Reserve was given its name based on &Beyond’s core mission of caring for the people, the region, and the wildlife that had been on this land from the start. The word Phinda is a Zulu word for just that, ‘the return’.

Do you have information on the Game Drive Vehicles?

On game drives, guests are able to get a lot closer to big game (wildlife). The animals are generally habituated to the vehicle. This means that they are used to the vehicle approaching them and know that it will never cause them harm. This enables to you to get within five to 10 metres of the large animals – and safely! All game drives are conducted in open 4 x 4 Land Cruisers or Landrovers. Most lodges’ vehicles can take a maximum of 6 guests. These vehicles may or may not have a canopy cover, so bring a hat and plenty of sunscreen.

Do lodges accept children, what activities are available to them?

Lodges in the Phinda Reserve have a suitably named, WILDchild program. This club is designed especially towards the educational and fun side of learning about the bush in South Africa. It offers interactive activities for learning more about new cultures, the importance of environmentalism, and evoking curiosity about our planet.

The WILDchild activities include fun in the lodge gardens, beading, crafting, painting, tracking, and fishing. An expedition is planned for each day to excite each child with a new daily activity. The expeditions are carried out based on the child’s interests and the age of the child. This detailed program will not soon be forgotten by your young adventurer!

Do I need to take Malarial tablets?

It is best to consult your doctor for more advise on whether you should take anti-malarial tablets. Please also be aware of ticks when travelling to any nature reserve. To avoid ticks, it is best to bring long trousers, socks, and hiking boots if you are going on bush walks.
