Weather and climate
The wet season from October to March Phinda Game Reserve is a lush leafy green from the winter rains. This increase of foliage makes it somewhat harder to spot wildlife. It is common, during this time of year, to see juvenile animals. Migratory birds are prevalent during this time of year as well. Temperatures can be quite hot during the day hovering around 30ºC (86ºF) and cooler in the evenings.
The dry season from April to September, brings cooler and more comfortable day time temperatures around 15ºC (59ºF) with low humidity. The waterholes and river beds come alive with all type of wildlife. Vegetation is thinned during this time of the year and the animals are relatively easier to spot. Snow fall is rare, but it can occur in the high mountains. This is a lower season for tourists, and is also lower risk for Malaria. Please see more information about malaria risk on our FAQ section.
